THE HIDDEN CORNER

I am devoted to observing the relationship between objects that we put on and human bodies. There is a triangular relation among the object, the wearer and the audiences. Garment and jewelry are the only art form that has intimate connection to human body, human identity and human society because we can never get to know about the completed image of our own bodies without relying on the external devices. For example, we cannot directly see our back but we are able to learn about the shape of our back curve by wearing intimate apparel. For the objects, the wearer is fundamental to the phenomenon of the objects, bringing a personal set of parameters to bear on the pieces. The objects, as the mediation between the wearer and the viewer, are to arouse the audiences’ awareness and entice them to step into the context. The three characters are mutually defining and interpreting each other within their implicit dialogue.

The project <the hidden corner> is a project that developed from this design philosophy. All of the three pieces have three different states when it is displayed, worn, and viewed as someone is wearing it. In the past, people wore jewelry to please others with their glasses. This project aims to awaken a greater appreciation and understanding of one's own feelings. The gemstones are set in places that are often overlooked, encouraging the wearer to physically appreciate the hidden treasures.
